All systems nominal...

I launched REMANENCE!
Remanence
Don't you just love that cover? I think it's amazing! Stephan Martiniere has done it again.

The launch was a little rockier than I intended. At the last minute I decided to employ a proofreader to give a new editor a try and that really pushed me up against the wire there at the end. I'm glad I did though, because I liked his work--he did a great job in a very short amount of time--and it never hurts to have another set of eyes looking for typos.

That meant that I had to format the ebook (easy) and paperback (excruciating, difficult, and far more time consuming than usual due to software problems) at the last minute. Next time I'll probably buy and learn InDesign and give myself weeks to do it in, rather than days or hours (I assumed it would only take a couple of hours to format the paperback when in reality it took something like forty nearly non-stop hours of wailing and gnashing of teeth.)

As a result the paperback lagged behind and is just now catching up with the ebook on the amazon page--but they're both on the same page now! I really wanted to upload everything early and give the system a chance to smooth everything out by March 13, but that simply was impossible. Next time it will go more smoothly.

Sales have been spectacular and the early reviews have been flattering. Middle books in trilogies are notoriously hard to pull off, but it seems like people are universally enjoying it and already asking for book three.

I appreciate each and every one of my readers and that's why I go out of my way to reply to questions and comments via social media and email. You guys rock!

The audio book is my next job. I'm planning to have Susanna Burney work on book two but contemplating hiring a male narrator to voice Ei'Brai's and Alan Bergen's chapters. Not sure how to work that out yet. I'm still exploring the possibilities. After that, I'll finish up my Druid (title not final yet) manuscript and begin work on CONVERGENCE (the third and final chapter in the Confluence trilogy.)

Read on!

Congratulations on getting it out there! I already picked up the eBook and look forward to the Audible. Just my opinion, but I thought Susanna did a fine job with Fluency and adding narrators for Remanence is probably unnecessary.
Hope you get all the sales!

Read Fluency with pleasure sometime last year, and downloaded Remanence when I received an alert from Amazon yesterday. I enjoyed Remanence at least as much as well. Thank you!

Dear Jen,

I can feel the struggle in your post. Just wanted to remind you of the "step-back." Because ultimately, time is just, well ... time. We get to enjoy the big picture, the timeless Whole perhaps more easily than you do. We're the lucky ones. I have Remenance but haven't started reading it yet. I suppose I am holding off in anticipation. There has been so much to read and I got behind due to both eyes suddenly failing with cataracts. A set back, but I am scheduled for laser surgery in a week, then two weeks later in the other eye. Then, when they promise 20-20 -- again and without glasses! -- I have decided I will pick up Fluency and read both novels back to back. What a treat! Thank you for working so hard like you do. We're with you, maybe not in every struggling moment, but in the timeless, the bigger picture of Now. It's one glorious sight, Jen. Step back when you can and remember to enjoy that with us as well. Take good care of you and yours.

Write on!
Zy

Just finished Remanence and found both Fluency and Remanence to be excellent reads. I do have one problem, they have the filthiest mouths. I really do not care for the expletes they utter on a constant basis. Other than that your story line is great and proofing quite good. I am looking forward to reading the 3rd book of the series. Although I will probably not read others as I don't care for the trashy mouths. It is probably my age which is 80 but I don't feel it is necessary and takes away from the magic of the story. I am an old newspaper editor and do like that you are not consistently using long fillers to get more books out. Fillers are long drawn out battle scenes and pages of what each character is thinking. I feel it is used to get five books out where three would do. However I do wish you lots of luck with your books as you are an excellent writer.

I'm sorry you don't care for Bergen's potty mouth. It's just who he is. For me, he's a real person and real people talk this way. I actually cut his amount of cursing in half, believe it or not, when I revised the book.

I do try to make every scene count without filler. I don't see the need for it. It wouldn't speed up the process for me. I am a slow writer, though I'm trying to find ways to write a little faster. This is a business after all.

Thank you for your kind words. Not all of my stories have characters who curse. The next series I'm going to release doesn't have any characters that curse like Alan Bergen.

Oh man!
I almost missed this! I just happened to spin by your website this evening because I couldn't remember how to spell you middle name to properly recommend Fluency to someone.

That's what I get for not being on your mailing list. I'm going to sign up for that now!

I'm glad you caught it. It's only been out for a month. Read on!

Hi Jennifer,
I'm from Germany and bought the german translation of "Fluency" couple months ago and read it within 2 or 3 days. I must say that I am a huge fan of yours now. The style, the ambience, the topic (first contact), the tone etc. reminded me a lot of my favourite author Arthur C. Clarke, so I'm really, really happy that I found your first novel. :) Therefore I wanted to ask you if "Remanence" will also be translated in German?
Best regards,
Roman

Thank you! As of yet, I don't have a contract with a German publisher for Remanence, but I'm sure my agent will be trying for one ASAP.

Hi Jennifer, me again!

I regularly check Amazon.de to see if Remanence is available in German, but no sign of it yet :( I was also pretty disappointed to see the reviews of Fluency on the website, so I gave it a 5-star-review, which it deserves it, i think!

Anyway: Do you have any news concerning a possible translation in German? (or French perhaps?)

I'd be happy to hear from you,
Best,
Roman

As of yet, still no news on the translation of Remanence. It's in my agent's capable hands and the publishers. I don't get any correspondence from the publishers directly so I don't know if they were pleased or not with how Fluency performed in Germany. I do know that some weren't happy with the translation, so maybe it didn't perform well.

Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for this amazing book! I read it in 3 days. No, I devoured it. It is amazing. I highly appreciate that you take the time to develop the characters without making it a chore to read. I feel a connection to them and that's important to me. There is one thing I don't understand, but I can't ask it here without spoilers. So I'll just reiterate that I loved the book and that I'm definitely looking out for more of your work. You're an excellent writer! Greetings from Europe :)

Well done- really enjoyed read the second of the series, only having come across fluency a couple of weeks ago. Looking forwards to the next instalment!

P.S. Give yourself some time to get used to Indesign! It's a fantastic publishing program but takes a little while to get used to.

Over the past week I have devoured both books in the series. I've been reading sci fi since middle school (I'm now 71) and this series has completely delighted me! Our world has caught up with so many of the concepts of the books I read as a young person and later in my 20s and later. It almost seemed for a long time that the genre was slowly fading. But your books in this series are fantastic! Love your characters, but especially love all the believable tech and science. Jane is a real flesh and blood person with special abilities who is so brave when thrown into this new culture...my kind of woman!

So buckle down, woman! I need to know what happens next! Thank you so much for telling me a good story.

Thank you so much for creating this whole new universe and writing this captivating trilogy. But please write part 3 soon!! I only found Fluency last week and devoured both books. Now I feel a little lost without my new friends on the Speroancora. I love the similarities to Farscape here and there and I really, really hope someone picks up your trilogy for a new sci fi series. Thank you again!!

Oh thank God there will be a third book! I need more! This has been a really enjoyable series so far - excellent mix between emotion and action sequences and it just keeps getting better without feeling over the top.
